Changes since 1.0 include adding the chooser name of the sending user to a message string automatically. Version 1.1 is backwards-compatible with 1.0, but 1.0 will not see the name of the sending user.
Also, please note that you HAVE to have "Program Linking" enabled on both machines for Ping to work.

Announcing… Ping, version 1.0
Ping is a small “chat” application that uses system 7 AppleEvents for its communication. Ping doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but it runs in only 30K of memory; small enough to make it possible to run as startup item for most macs. The problem with most larger talk applications is that they’re too large to run, so noone bothers, so you can’t talk after all.
Ping is freeware. As such, you have my permission to distribute it free of charge to anyone, but you may not distribute a modified copy. Source is also included for those who want to know how it works, and the same goes for that: distribute the source for free, but do not distribute changed source.
If you find any bugs or see anything that might be done better in the source, don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m:
Ping is redistributed free of charge, and as such, the distributor nor the author can take any responsibility for the performance of the product; The user uses Ping at his own risk, in no way shall the author nor the distributor be held responsible for any damage, direct or indirect, caused by Ping or the use or lack of use thereof.
Ping may NOT be redistributed without this document, or without the source. Ping source may not be redistributed without Ping and this document.
